Swedish Massage

Relaxing long gentle to medium pressure strokes soothe the nervous system and increase lymphatic drainage, kneading motions increase circulation to the muscles, tapotement helps to stimulate the respiratory and muscular systems and vibration helps the mind let go of unnecessary tension.

The true history of this form of massage is convoluted, however it’s debated origins are from a Swedish gymnast and fencer, Per Henrik Ling, who founded “medical gymnastics” which included massage techniques, and Dutch doctor Johann Georg Mezger who also had also studied gymnastics yet became a doctor and utilized French “friction techniques” for healing sprains. It is Johann who codified Swedish massage as it stands today. We like it because it feels good.

While in her initial training, Tamara believed Swedish massage to be inferior technically speaking to myofascial release and trigger point therapy. However as it stands today, the balance multitude of styles is pertinent in her work. As one of the goals is to feel blissful afterwards, might as well begin in the session!
